    Hamptons Magazine August 2014:

    Alicia Rountree, who hails from the island nation of Mauritius, knows a thing or two about the beach—but the stunner knows even more about French fare. The model/entrepreneur brought her favorite French-style open-faced sandwiches to New York with her restaurant Tartinery, and this summer, Tartinery popped up at The Surf Lodge so that Montauk dwellers could also have fresh French options. Here, Rountree dishes on her restaurant, her favorite foods, and her little black book on the East End.

    On Tartinery: “There was a lack of casual chic concepts in New York with clean and simple food,” says Rountree, who is part owner with her friend Nicolas Dutko. “Tartines are very popular in France, so I thought it would be a hit.” Frenchman and world-famous restauranteur Patrick Derderian assisted with the opening of the first Tartinery on Mulberry Street in 2010.

    On their Surf Lodge pop-up: Rountree remembers, “We were introduced to owner Jayma Cardoso in the spring, and we had a great connection with her. We loved each other’s brand and agreed it would be a great fit.” From there, Rountree and Dutko set out to supply The Surf Lodge with their fresh, hand-picked ingredients, including local lobster for a summer special aptly called The Surf Lodge, piled high with lobster, grapefruit segments, and avocado for a refreshing summer lunch.


    On the menu: “My favorite tartine is the Labne,” says Rountree of Tartinery’s dish with cucumber and yogurt. “I live for the delicious trio juice of apple, pineapple, and orange.” She continues, “Our image is pure and healthy. Our tartines are fresh.” The international model is also very hands-on in the kitchen, with she and Dutko “working together with our chef in the creation of new tartines. We taste everything,” she says,” and we make sure to add a personal touch to them.”

    On the Hamptons: “It’s just so refreshing to get out of the city and be somewhere peaceful,” says the model who keeps a rigid international travel schedule to accommodate for shoots all over the world. “I always feel like I’ve been on a mini vacation in the Hamptons, even when I’m just there for the weekend.”
